HIGH-SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION
PlayPosit, fka eduCanon, is a web-based application. There is no need to install any software onto your desktop or laptop computer to run the platform.
While YouTube only requires 0.5 Mbps for a streaming single video, we recommend the following for effective streaming:
- In-class simultaneous video viewing - 1 to 2 Mbps per individual user. Requires a router capable of handling multiple connected devices simultaneously.
- In-class single point broadcasting to entire class - 1 to 2 Mbps for instructor. Students can take questions on 3G Network Speeds (600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps).
- At-home flipped viewing - 1 to 2 Mbps.
Because a PlayPosit bulb (our term for videos with embedded questions) has embedded interactive elements in the video timeline and data transfer between the end user and our system, a slow connection can make eduCanon seem buggy and cause a less than optimal experience.
WEB BROWSER COMPATIBILITY
PlayPosit is optimized for the latest versions of Google Chrome. If possible, we recommend using this browser for student playback, building lessons, and classroom management. We can also certify student playback for the latest version of Safari (Safari 10).
IPAD AND ANDROID TABLET COMPATIBILITY
For building PlayPosit bulbs, we do not recommend using a phone or tablet device. For viewing PlayPosit lessons as a student on iPhone or iPad, we recommend viewing from an updated Chrome or Safari browser.
There is not currently an Android app. Since PlayPosit is a web-based project, bulbs can play on Android tablet (OS 4.2+) web browsers. For the best experience, we still recommend using Google Chrome.
ACCESS TO YOUTUBE AND OTHER VIDEO SOURCES
PlayPosit bulbs can be built from YouTube, Vimeo, TeacherTube, Google Drive, SchoolTube, and others. For an updated list see this FAQ article.
In order for YouTube videos to be compatible with PlayPosit, they must be listed as either “public” or “unlisted”. More details here. Similarly, Vimeo and Google Drive videos must be designated as public so that anyone can see your videos.
If your organization blocks YouTube, no worries! We have custom YouTube streaming options designed for school partners. Simply reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll work with you to make PlayPosit bulbs work, regardless of network restrictions.
